Tribute to Jarvis

02.01.2004

Today begins my annual tribute to Jarvis, that special time known to many black history month. It's also a special one this year, because it has the much ballyhooed leap day, so everyone can get an extra day of black history in.

Of course, this is when I tell Jarvis it's still the shortest month of the year.

Yep, going to hell. That's what I'm doing.

Flash Comic Fun!

01.28.2004

I was poking around the internet (hey, that's a first!) and found a neat little Flash game that appealed to the comic book geek in me. I made a copy of it here so as to not steal too much of their bandwidth - I know what a pain bandwidth theives can be. It's not too dificult of a game, both Jerry and I managed to get all of them.

There's also a 48 pixel superheroine version that's a little more difficult - I never noticed how much the female characters tend to use the same color combinations.

Overall, if you read a good smattering of comics over the years, you'll probably enjoy the little quiz.

Oh! That reminds me I've got to check at the comic store and see if they've gotten that batch of Punisher graphic novels I got them to order...

Sweet Nothings

01.27.2004

One of the quirky things we talk about at work is the contents of the snack machine. I think a part of it is that due to varios diets, none of us ever gets anything from said snack machine. Yesterday, while gazing upon the forbidden sweets, an odd thing struck me (well, at least it was odd to me). I wonder who comes up with the names for candy bars?

One of my favorite candy bars is the 100 Grand bar, but who comes up with a name like that? 100,000 is supposed to be the name of something? 100,000 what? I think the opposite of the 100 Grand bar would be the Zero bar. It has nougat. But again this begs the question: Zero what?

Until the answer is found, I think it best to go forth armed with a 100 Grand bar in the left hand, a Zero bar in the right, and just hope that an average of 50,000 is good enough for whatever the answer may be.

Late Bills

01.26.2004

I received a late notice for my utility bill Friday. I found this odd, since I had mailed the payment 2 weeks earlier. I normally wouldn't remember this, but I had to scrounge for stamps and had to use a 33 cent stamp along with 4 one-cent stamps. I did the same for my mortgage and phone bills, too.

Being a modern man, I checked my bank account online to see if the check had cleared. It hadn't. Oddly enough, nothing has cleared since the 5th. I'm not sure if it's time for me to be paranoid or not. There was an auction I mailed payment for last week that I'm checking up on to see if the guy has recieved yet. If not, it's definitely time for me to get paranoid.

PHP <strike>Guru</strike> Idiot

01.24.2004

I had been playing around with some PHP Saturday and ran into a stumbling block. I had a couple of included files in a file that was to redirect the user somewhere else, but I kept getting an error:

Cannot add header information - headers already sent by...[one of the included files]

I've been writing PHP for years. I consider myself adept at it. If it needs written, I can probably do it. But this error had me stumped for a good 3 hours. Maybe I was missing a semi colon or a bracket. Maybe a typo, but as hard as I looked I could never find it. I even took everything out of the included file except the PHP tags, and I still got the error.

Luckily, the internet came to my rescue. 3 minutes of searching sent me to my answer, which happened to be a character after the closing PHP tag, in this case: a tab.

A @#$%ing tab. 3 hours. Good lesson in humility. Stupid 3 hour humility tab.

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
