On Friday I recieved the parcel on my stoop I had been awaiting. The 4th season of Star Trek Voyager I had won on Ebay had made it's way from Vegas to Outer Limestone County. This completed my collection of the Trek series. For now. Enterprise is due out in May, and I being the completist I am, will have to eventually get the 4 seasons of that series too (even though I've only watched the pilot for the series - for now). But for now, I will bask in my lack of trying to get anything Trek related, and can put my Trekkiness back in the closet. For a week or two, at least.
So after my little song experiment yesterday, Jerry and I started arguing about other songs with interchangable lyrics. He mentioned Wall of Voodoo's Mexican Radio which, for some reason known only to my subconcious, made me think of an obscure song by The Other Ones, Another Holiday. I tried splicing the songs together and found out that they fit together much better if you have the rhythm of Afternoon Delight as the base.
Mexican Radio | Another Holiday | Merged
i feel a hot wind on my shoulder | Well you're walking straight ahead | ----> | i feel a hot wind on my shoulder |
and the touch of a world that is older | But you're looking to your right | ----> | But you're looking to your right |
i turn the switch and check the number | Got your eyes down low | ----> | i turn the switch and check the number |
i leave it on when in bed i slumber | But you hold your head high | ----> | But you hold your head high |
i hear the rhythms of the music | A hola hola ho and a hola hola hey | ----> | i hear the rhythms of the music |
i buy the product and never use it | Another holiday | ----> | Another holiday |
i hear the talking of the dj | Beach, the sun and sand dunes | ----> | i hear the talking of the dj |
can't understand, just what does he say? | Takes me far away | ----> | Takes me far away |
i'm on a mexican radio | Distant lands | ----> | i'm on a mexican radio |
i dial it in and tune the station | Are not so far away | ----> | Are not so far away |
they talk about the u.s. inflation | I don't know | ----> | they talk about the u.s. inflation |
i understand just a little | Why we don't go | ----> | Why we don't go |
no comprende - it's a riddle | Take my hand I'll show you the way | ----> | no comprende - it's a riddle |
i'm on a mexican radio | Pack your bags and sail away | ----> | Pack your bags and sail away |
I've been trying to figure out how to present this, and this is the best way I could come up with. It is my belief that the lyrics to Starland Vocal Band's Afternoon Delight and Kenny Loggins' I'm Alright may be interwoven.
Below are the beginning of the lyrics to each. If you alternate reading (or singing) the highlighted section it still makes a nice little song. You can even use the non-highlighted sections:
Afternoon Delight | I'm Alright | Merged
Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight | I'm alright | ----> | Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight |
Gonna grab some afternoon delight | Nobody worry 'bout me | ----> | Nobody worry 'bout me |
My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right' | Why you got to gimme a fight? | ----> | My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right' |
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night? | Can't you just let it be? | ----> | Can't you just let it be? |
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day | I'm alright | ----> | When everything's a little clearer in the light of day |
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way | Don't nobody worry 'bout me | ----> | Don't nobody worry 'bout me |
Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite | You got to gimme a fight | ----> | Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite |
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight | Why don't you just let me be | ----> | Why don't you just let me be |
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite | Do what you like, | ----> | Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite |
And the thought of lovin' you is getting so exciting | Doing it nat'rally | ----> | Doing it nat'rally |
Sky rockets in flight | But if it's too easy | ----> | Sky rockets in flight |
Afternoon delight | They're gonna disagree | ----> | They're gonna disagree |
Afternoon delight | It's your life | ----> | Afternoon delight |
Afternoon delight | And isn't it a mystery | ----> | And isn't it a mystery |
This was the perfect weekend to go catch up on things outside. It was pretty, the temperature was just right, the humidity hasn't reached 1000% yet. So I took advantage of it by... doing laundry and watching DS9 episodes, but this weekend I had a goal. When I got home Friday I noticed that I had 5 episodes of season 7 left to watch. 5 episodes and I would have seen all the DS9 episodes. Just a few more hours of watching and I could quit cramming in episodes on the weekend and having nerd induced dreams about running around on a space station saving the universe.
So I took Friday night and more of Saturday than I meant to and I watched those final 5 episodes, thus bringing and end to Project Watch DS9. Overall, I found the series better than I expected, especially once Avery Brooks shaved his head again. The series finale was a little weak - it reminded me of Babylon 5's "we need to hurry and wrap everything up". Even though I was (and I guess am) a Babylon 5 fan, I appreciate DS9 stretching the Dominion War out for 3 years, as opposed to B5 having 3 major interstellar wars in 5 years. I know that somewhere out there someone has pitted DS9 against B5. The result, of course, would be DBS14.
Friday also marked the end of another quest. I won an eBay auction for season 4 of Voyager, the last season I was missing for that series run. I watched the first season sporadically along with the final episode, so it's going to be like watching a whole new show. But first, I'm going to take a little Star Trek break. Maybe read a book. Make some new websites. Mow the grass.
I received a parcel on my stoop as I arrived home yesterday. It was the latest addition to my vast cornucopia of wrestling figures. This time is was the latest release of NWA-TNA wrestlers, which I had just happened to come across by chance.
These are the same quality as the WWE figures that have been coming out the past few years. These figures are reminiscent of the old WCW figures, with each one sporting some type of exciting "wrestling action move" like a body slam or fist pummelling action. The AJ Styles figure even has a little lever sticking out of his back, not unlike the WCW Sid Vicious figure had, both of which can now body slam their opponents.
But I'm all about wrestling figures with belts, and this line up has a belt I've never gotten before. The Jeff Jarrett figure comes with its very own NWA Heavyweight belt, whcih I have to admit is really well made for a little piece of plastic. It's really too good a belt for a Jeff Jarrett figure. So, me being me, I have awarded the belt to the WWE Ric Flair Classic figure, resplendant in robe and trademark "whoooo" facial expression.
Now I just have to wait for the next batch of figures to get mailed....
As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).
Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
