Surfing Archives

I don't know how I got off on this particular tangent, but while doing a little harmless surfing Saturday I cam across a site that archives sites off the net. That led to about an hour looking at older versions of this site. It's amazing both how often my site designs change along with how different (at least to me) the designs seem.

Then I went on a little trip of Jer's old layouts and found that one the better pics of me had managed to be archived.

I've got so many things to do in the here and now and I waste a chunk of the weekend looking at old sites....

The Drive Thru

Today at work we came upon a new saying. It spawned form the joy of .NET, and how today, for some inexplicable reason, both Jer and I were sticking code in places that were screwing us once the code ran. Since .NET has special events and whatnot that it triggers at seemingly random times, our code snippets would either fire when we didn't want them, or not fire when we did want them.

After the upteenth time, it occured that there should be a special place for putting these code snippets that were screwing us up. I have taken it upon myself to name this imaginary place as "The Drive Thru", in honor of one of the more famous Lethal Weapon 2 quotes. So the next time you write code that screws you, you can just assume you put it in the drive thru.

Joy of Working From Home

I'm finally feeling like my old self again. I've still got some anitbiotics to take, but I think I'm finally over being sick.

Today has turned into a work from home day, not due to illness, but because of various vacations and work assignments it's not really worthwhile to actually go in to work. Nothing is gained, and in actuality if you factor in the time spent driving to whichever office I would go to today, the gas needed, the socializing time lost to coworkers, and all the other little things you end up doing, it's a big time saver to work from home. The drawback there is that, today at least, I keep thinking of all the little things I'd rather be doing.

The paperwork that's needed for my taxes is stacked on the desk beside me. It would probably take 45 or 60 minutes to get into TurboTax and finish up my taxes. Gina's computer sits on the kitchen table waiting for me to try and replace the existing hard drive with a new one - normally a 10 minute job, but her Dell keeps wanting to make her 160GB drive a 33GB drive. The tutorial book for the Torque Game Engine beckons me. A couple of Xbox games I got for my birthday also beckon. Mom is coming for a visit at the end of the week, so there's always the needed clean up for that.

But somehow I have to force myself into the exciting land of .NET and update files to match data base schema changes. Yeah, that's what I would put at the top of my list of things to do.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to Brandi! She hits 33 today.

Irishness?

I've been battling the strep throat since the weekend, hence the lack of my usual joviality concerning world affairs for the past week or so. In fact, today is my first day at work since last Friday.

I've managed to be drugged enough that after sitting at my desk for 45 minutes, it suddenly hit me (after looking at another website) that today is St Patricks Day. This means I managed to skip right over the Ides of March and have landed in St Patty's. Man, I'm just all messed up. Curse you the strep throat!

Just Some Birthday Stuff

I spent the majority of this past weekend running around seeing people. Last Friday I went to Tennessee and saw Mom, and managed to have a really good visit. Usually when I go I get kind of anxious to come home after a couple of hours, but this was one of those times I wanted to stay longer (and I didn't make it home until 1:30 in the morning). The next day I went off to Moulton to see Dad. Much like the day before, I ended up having a good visit and had to leave before I really wanted to. Sunday I went to Gina'a and again had a good visit, along with a good trip to Backyard Burgers.

Today marks the birthday of Old Man Poplin, who is probably reaching his mid-hundreds today. Old Man Poplin is best known for his views on the topics of the day which he shares with the Huntsville Times editor, often times leading to said opinions being shared via newspaper with the community at large. So happy birthday, Old Man Poplin! I hope you have as much fun with people on your birthday as I did mine!

(Old Man Poplin is really a sweetie, so I only pick on him out of the love that I have for my secret surrogate father - which also means I need to ask for a raise in my allowance)
