I Hate Long Distance

03.12.2004

Living in the boonies, it's a long distance charge for me to call anyone but Gina. It's even long distance to the nearest Dominos, 3 miles away, because it's across the county line. I've been meaning to cancel my MCI service because I think the service plan charges are too much. Last month I made 1 long distance call. 1 Minute. 8 cents of long distance time. After fees, taxes, rate plans, my bill was a little over 8 dollars.

This morning I called to cancel said plan. It's a lot cheaper for me to use a calling card. I talked to the helpful customer service babe and told her why I was wanting to cancel my service, and then she tells me that they now have a plan with no service fee, with 8 cents/minute and a 35 cent connection charge. If you don't use it , there's no charges at all. Where was this plan when I was asking for it for the past 5 years?!?!?!

So now I'll wait and see how they screw me over for the billing on the new, no minimum setup.

Kevin Smith Interviewed

03.11.2004

I've been a fan of Kevin Smith ever since I saw Clerks. It helps that I was working at a video store at the time, so I was the video store guy from the movie. Finding out more ebout Kevin Smith - how he sold his comic collection to make the movie, he's gone on to write several comic books, etc. - he's appealed to the nerd in me to where I like him even more.

Premier magazine had Ben Affleck interview Kevin Smith, primarily about his latest movie Jersey Girl. It's an interesting little read.

It's About To Begin

03.10.2004

Friday is to be the day that my home remodelling begins. The paperwork got signed yesterday, so soon I should have new flooring and a new master bath. Along the way I'll get a leaky spot on the roof and an electrical circuit fixed, so I'm looking forward to it all.

I just wonder what time these guys are going to show up?

Tickets!

03.08.2004

I didn't have much luck with tickets last week. Granted, the only tickets I had tried to get were for the sold out Larry the Cable Guy show, but Saturday affordd me a chance to mss out on other tickets.

Prince was coming. Not to Huntsville, but nearby. There was to be a show in Birmingham and a show in Nashville. The Birmingham show had goneon sale last Monday, so all that was left were the nosebleed seats. Nashville tickets were togo on sale at 10:00 AM on Saturday. This was to be the last time the Purple One was to sing his old hits (I think David Bowie did a tour like this), so if there was a concert I needed to go to, this was going to be it.

Thanks to the Tonight Show, Gina wanted to take her son (and along the way, his girlfriend) to also see the show. That means I get to take Jerry, so armed with my credit card and the internet, I made my way to ticketmaster Saturday morning to see what I could get. Thanks to a little surfing, I had surmised that the seats closest to the stage on the floor had been reserved for NPG Music Club members (which have a limit of 2, and you don't know where you're sitting until you get to the show) and those tickets actually on sale in Nashville. As it was, I was just hoping for something on the floor.

10:00 came and I nervously reloaded the order page until it allowed me to select seats. I managed to get Section 106, Row A, which is on the floor about halfway back. I know when it's wrestling seating, this is a pretty good spot to be in. So I'm happy with my ticket(s). Now I've just got to wait until May 6. It's only 2 months....

Watching Myself Get Older

03.04.2004

For some reason I find myself wide awake at 12:40 AM on the morning of my birthday. I'm not sure why I'm awake. I started to go to bed 2 hours ago, but somehow found myself drawn to update the map for my chiropractors website. There's a surprisingly little amount of JavaScript that makes so much stuff happen. Granted, it's code stolen liberated from the Rand McNally website, but when something is done well, it deserves to be stolen liberated!

I can see that Jer has pre-prepared (I'm allowed to make up words on my birthday) his blog for the day, giving me both something to read and to remind me that I'm now as old as he is once again. I took it easy on him this year. I think I only called him an old-timer for maybe 3 days out of the 6 weeks he was eligible. I'm just getting soft in my old age.

But now I'm going to get some sleep before I find out what the rest of my life holds in store for me.

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
